Description

Primus Aerospace is a leading manufacturing partner to aerospace, defense, and space OEMs, Primes, and Tier I suppliers. The company specializes in producing high-tolerance, complex geometry parts machined using standard and exotic metals. Primus works directly with all major aerospace manufacturers (e.g., Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman) to provide components for mission-critical civilian and defense programs.

The Level III Machinist produces machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating CNC machines to produce a variety of precision metal parts while maintaining quality and safety standards. Work from relatively complex engineering drawings/diagrams and instructions to execute work assignments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Compute dimensions and determine sequence of operations.
  • Measure, mark, and record dimensions and reference points on material and work pieces for guiding for subsequent machining.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, align, and secure holding fixtures, attachments, accessories, and materials into machines.
  • Calculate and set machine controls to regulate machines during the machining process.
  • Verify machine settings by measuring positions, first-article, and sample work pieces using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, etc.
  • Maintain part specifications; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; sharpening and/or replacing worn tools.
  • Follow quality assurance procedures and communicate quality issues.
  • Continuous improvement efforts to reduce machining times while maintaining quality,
  • Perform deburring.
  • Complete job travelers, time sheets, inspection documents, production, and quality logs.
  • Maintain a positive work environment ensuring commitment to goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a job shop environment demonstrating proficiency in operating all manual machine tools such as lathes, 3 and 5 axis mills.
  • Mastercam 2020 preferred
  • Experience programming offline.
  • Plan machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, and machining parameters.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and quality standards as it applies to an aerospace and defense environment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and achieve goals driven by metrics.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset and ability to work independently with limited supervision.
