Position Summary:

As a Senior Agriculture and Food Science Researcher at SR1, you will play a crucial role in pioneering research and development initiatives aimed at advancing sustainable farming practices and food science innovations. This role involves a significant focus on regenerative organic farming, soil health, crop resilience, and agricultural sustainability, particularly within Mississippi's unique environmental context. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, you will lead efforts to educate and empower the next generation of regenerative organic farmers and agricultural professionals, with a strong emphasis on equity, sustainability, and community engagement.


Team Dynamics:

The Agriculture and Food Science Department will initially consist of a small, dedicated team of 3-4 individuals. This intimate team setting ensures that your contributions will have a significant, visible impact on our projects and the communities we serve. Responsibilities:

  • Research and Development: Conduct innovative research in regenerative organic farming and farm-to-table food equity, aiming to improve soil health, crop resilience, and overall agricultural sustainability.


  • Educational Program Development: Design and manage educational programs for aspiring organic farmers and agricultural professionals, focusing on equity, inclusivity, and impactful learning experiences.


  • Funding Proposal Writing: Spearhead the development of funding proposals to secure grants and sponsorships, emphasizing initiatives that enhance equity and sustainability in agriculture.


  • Program Management: Direct the operations of educational and training programs, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity, while promoting sustainable and organic farming techniques.


  • Stakeholder Engagement: Foster relationships with key stakeholders in the agriculture and food science sectors to amplify the voices of underrepresented farmers and promote SR1's mission at various platforms.


Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in agriculture, food science, environmental science, or related fields.


  • Demonstrated expertise in regenerative organic farming, leafy greens, soil health, and sustainable agricultural practices, with a strong commitment to equity and inclusivity.


  • Proven experience in developing and managing educational programs in agriculture or environmental education, targeting underrepresented communities.


  • Exceptional grant writing and proposal development skills, with a successful track record in securing funding for sustainable and equitable agricultural initiatives.


  • Excellent project management abilities, adept at prioritizing tasks, meeting deadlines, and managing resources efficiently.


  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of inspiring diverse audiences and driving positive change in the agricultural sector.


  • A deep passion for agriculture and food science, with a creative and innovative approach to problem-solving and a strong affinity for rural community life and an entrepreneurial spirit.


Compensation:

The base pay for this position is $60,000 annually. As part of a startup department within SR1, the potential for growth and increased compensation is high, contingent upon the success and impact of the department's initiatives.
