In this role you will be accountable for:

  • Manages and oversees projects as assigned by the Mechanical Department Manager in accordance with Sulzer guidelines
  • Supervises and directs Mechanical Department personnel to ensure quality, efficiency and timely completion of assigned projects (including administration of personnel aspects, time-keeping, PTO requests and scheduling, attendance issues, discipline issues, etc.)
  • Observe Company Safety Policy and Procedures; follow and support all STS Safety Policies and ISO Procedures
  • Provides ongoing on-the-job training of Mechanical Leads and Department personnel 
  • Guide and direct the Leads to assist in managing projects, purchase orders, TWI’s and working with outside services
  • Assists with technical updates within the Mechanical Department 
  • Responsible for filing pertinent information such as releases, reports, issued drawings, purchase orders, emails, special instructions, material analysis, etc. in the electronic project job folder
  • Responsible for the continued development, maintenance, and upgrading of procedures and job work instructions applicable to machinery repairs in the interest of quality and efficiency
  • Serves as Project Manager (when assigned) on projects that involve multiple departments and/or divisions during repairs on centrifugal, axial, and screw compressors, steam turbines, gearboxes, and hot gas expanders
  • Develops detailed repair recommendations/scopes
  • Originates and maintains a project job binder for the Mechanical Department
  • Work closely with the Mechanic Leads to ensure adequate As-Received / Final Detailed Inspection Summaries associated with assigned projects are developed
  • Works closely with Core Estimating group to ensure accurate hours and material cost of assigned projects 
  • Works closely with the Mechanical Department Manager to ensure that the department has adequate tools to safely and efficiently repair mechanical equipment
  • Works effectively and professionally with Customer Representatives on assigned projects; including: telephone consultation, and/or communications by email or fax
  • Works closely with the Mechanical Department Manager to ensure that Mechanical personnel are properly trained in all aspects of their jobs
  • Originates and coordinates the procurement of outside services, materials, and parts with the purchasing department in an efficient manner
  • Coordinates personnel overtime requirements with other department managers and supervisors
  • Coordinates, communicates, and works with personnel from other departments in a professional manner
  • Improves and maintains ability on Company computer applications as required to effectively perform the duties of the position
  • Maintain LEAN objectives within the department

 

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Engineering Degree plus at least 1 of year hands-on mechanical experience or a minimum or 5 years of hands-on mechanical work experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of turbo machinery repair
  • Experience leading teams in an industrial setting. 

 

Working Time:

Start time range is 5:00 am – 6:30 am. A typical work week is 50 hours Monday through Friday, however the Mechanical Supervisor is expected to be available at all times including after hours and on weekends as required. Overtime compensation is available.
