Hennepin Healthcare's EMS Education department anticipates the need for casual and part-time level Instructors and Educators on the staff to help/assist with varying classes on campus and off-site during days and evenings (weekdays and weekends). This opening serves as a talent pipeline for these anticipated openings at the Instructor and Educator. These casual positions are paid hourly and are not benefit eligible. HENNEPIN EMS EDUCATION

The Hennepin EMS Education division provides approximately 10,000 student hours of education a month. These educational offerings include:

  • The largest CAAHEP accredited paramedic program in the state of Minnesota
  • Primary EMT Education
  • Tactical Emergency Medical Peace Officer (TEMPO) Program
  • Critical Care Paramedic Course
  • Annual training for Hennepin EMS Staff
  • Quarterly continuing education for first responder agencies
  • AHA Training Center
  • NAEMT Training Center
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support
  • Trauma Nursing Core and Emergency Nursing Pediatric Courses

EMS INSTRUCTOR - SUMMARY

Under general supervision, teach designated emergency medical care topics to members of local businesses, health care facilities, public safety agencies, and other organizations.

RESPONSIBILITIES (EMS INSTRUCTOR)

  • Teach designated emergency medical care topics to members of local businesses, health care facilities, public safety agencies, and other organizations; Ability to teach skills, evaluate student performance and provide effective feedback with divergent student groups
  • Set-up and maintain instructional equipment as needed
  • Under general supervision, assist with the development of curriculums and programs designed to meet identified needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

EMS EDUCATOR - SUMMARY

Develop curriculum, coordinate, and teach advanced and basic level emergency medical care courses for public safety personnel, paramedics, physicians, nurses, other healthcare professionals, and the public.

RESPONSIBILITIES (EMS EDUCATOR)

  • Develop curriculum, coordinate, and teach advanced and basic level emergency medical care courses and individualized continuing education sessions for public safety personnel, paramedics, physicians, nurses, other healthcare professionals, college students, and the public
  • Serve as a resource regarding emergency medical issues for public safety personnel; share emergency medical educational expertise with public safety departments and other customer groups
  • Evaluate skills and abilities of students; Evaluate University and College student performance consistent with the policies and procedures of the institution of higher learning partner
  • Conduct learning needs assessment of students and customer groups
  • Develop teaching plans and instructional strategies; incorporate distance learning technologies and other multimedia aids based on needs assessments, quality improvement and curriculum requirements
  • Conduct teaching sessions using multimedia content and distance learning technologies
  • Maintain course and program records and compile data for research, reports and evaluation purposes
  • Coordinate and develop designated outreach activities, research, and special projects
  • Arrange and maintain classrooms; order, clean and maintain equipment and supplies
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Required COVID-19 Vaccinations for Employees

EMS INSTRUCTOR - QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education / Work Experience (EMS INSTRUCTOR)

  • Two years of patient care experience in emergency medical care
  • Certified as an EMT, Paramedic, or RN in the State of Minnesota

Preferred Qualifications (EMS INSTRUCTOR)

  • AHA, BLS, ACLS, or PALs Instructor or equivalent.

License/ Certifications (EMS INSTRUCTOR)

  • Currently certified as an EMT, Paramedic, or RN in the State of Minnesota

EMS EDUCATOR - QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education / Work Experience (EMS EDUCATOR)

  • Associate's degree in a health, business, or education area OR an Associate's degree or a diploma from an accredited registered nursing program
  • Three years of approved paramedic experience, or three years of EMS education teaching, or three years of approved critical care clinical experience or three years of approved nursing experience

OR

  • An approved equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications (EMS EDUCATOR)

  • Bachelor's degree in health, business, EMS, education or nursing
  • Current BLS, ACLS and PALS instructor by the American Heart Association or approved equivalent

License / Certifications (EMS EDUCATOR)

  • Current certification as a Paramedic with the State of Minnesota or current licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of Minnesota OR current certification or licensure from State of Minnesota in health related field which performs direct clinical care for critically ill patients
  • Must have valid Class D Minnesota driver's license or equivalent and must have a satisfactory driving record including no more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years of licensure
  • Must complete an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) or National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course as designated by Hennepin EMS
  • Must qualify for and maintain a Hennepin County motor vehicle operator's permit
