About the Position

A Behavioral Health Registered Nurse at Lifespan helps develop individualized treatment plans and counseling to give geriatric patients the total care and attention they need. Your patient population may consist of those with anxiety or mood disorders, substance abuse, Alzheimer's disease, or other forms of dementia that have been admitted to the hospital for an inpatient stay. You will provide direct care to your patients by facilitating social and emotional needs, supervising and administering medication schedules, and evaluating patient progress. To maintain a safe environment, you will use monitoring equipment and restraining techniques, if deemed necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care appropriate to the patient's psychiatric state
  • Review patient charts and administer psychotropic or similar medications
  • Remove potentially harmful or triggering environmental features and intervene through restraint, consolation, or medicating highly unsettled patients
  • Initiate or participate in life-saving procedures, including CPR, when necessary
  • Participate in planning and implementation of psychiatric intervention plan for assigned patients
  • Utilize professional judgement to evaluate appropriateness of planned or prescribed treatments based on patient's current psychiatric state
  • Modify treatment or contact physicians as circumstances require

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to develop individualized treatment plans based on patient's psychiatric needs
  • Administer medications as prescribed and accurately document administration
  • Conduct environmental assessments to ensure patient's are safe and in a non-triggering environment
  • Educate patients and their families

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Rhode Island
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN), preferred
  • 1 year of experience in acute health care setting
  • Current CPR certification
