  • Assumes charge of the bus and passengers while the bus is in route and is responsible for the safety and conduct of those transported, operates according to assigned schedules and routes, transports only authorized students and adult sponsors
  • Maintains a good working relationship with the school staff and maintains a disciplined decorum of the bus conducive to safety and protection of property. Presents a positive role model for patrons that supports the goals of Dallas ISD
  • Accessible to dispatcher or supervisor for daily assignments, covers routes and/or other runs as the supervisor or dispatcher directs
  • Assists and instructs pupils in proper loading and unloading procedures
  • Renders assistance, if needed, when the bus breaks down or is involved in an accident
  • Reports discipline problems to the transportation supervisor
  • Reports to work on time, is reliable for regular and overtime work, and is absent only with good cause
  • Makes neat, legible and accurate transportation records as required
  • Maintains a clean bus externally and internally, reports maintenance problems to maintenance foreman in a timely manner
  • Attends all required staff developments and completes any required trainings
  • Follows the Dallas ISD Driver Code of Conduct, exhibits good judgement in decision making and problem solving, works effectively with others, follows the chain of command as noted in organizational policy
  • Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned
  • Accredited High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency) preferred
  • At least 21 years of age required
  • Texas Commercial Driver's License (Class A or B) with Passenger (P) and School (S) endorsements
  • Type 3 driving record that meets the District's standard for operations of motor vehicles
  • Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam
  • Meet all state (TEA) qualifications for school bus drivers
  • Competency to complete required bus driver safety training
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in speaking, reading, and writing Bilingual preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must routinely lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel throughout the district is integral to this job.
