Contract Representative

"Not worth the few benefits!"

What do you like about working at IRS?

"Very little was appealing to me about the position. However, you can always depend on working the same schedule each week with very little variation. Also the benefits you receive will be cheaper than those offered in the private sector. Also, once done with your first year of work, you have very good job security."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"The interview is a simple phone test. What they are looking for is someone who speaks clearly on the phone and is able to relay information to the taxpayers. Also, during training, avoid drawing attention to yourself by asking questions regarding policy. Usually your instructor will not be clear on the answer and you may find yourself unintentionally making the instructor look bad, which you may find affecting your ability for any upward advancement."

What don't you like about working at IRS?

"Everything else regarding the job can be very frustrating. Management prefers you not ask questions and when you do, you usually do not get the required information needed to complete your task. You may also find yourself unintentionally bringing negative attention to your self which may make it harder for you to advance."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Management needs to introduce a more stable work environment that is fair to all employees. A good start would be to decrease the amount of middle management and to make sure that those managers are able to assist their teams with questions regarding an employees main job duties, which include proper knowledge of tax codes and policies."
