Submit a Review"One of my favorite aspects of being an Information System Security Officer was the creative aspect of it. At first glance it would seem like a very "by the book" kind of job and to some extent it is. However, many times situations arose where something needed to be accomplished but security protocols were blocking this. So, one of my jobs was to figure out how it could be accomplished while conforming to the standards set up by the government. I often achieved this through the development of automated scripts. Thus, I loved the creativity of the job but was sometimes frustrated by some of the security standards."
"I enjoy the opportunity to always learn new technologies. Audits are very stressful at times, but necessary. We have received a superior rating on our last audit, but in the long run, unless I advance into an I.S.S.M.'s position, then their really isn't, so far as I can see at the time being, of advancing into this position as we only have one seat for this position which is already filled, thus limiting advancement overall. I also would like exposure to work outside the DoD at this time."
"I started as Information System Technician in 1999. After three years, I became an ISSO to work with the Navy Reserve Center personnel to establish and maintain a legacy LAN (unclassified and classified). US Navy made a contract with NMCI (Navy/Marine Corp Intranet), and NMCI tore down the legacy LAN to put in their own IT infrastructure."
