Individuals are promoted to high technical positions based on their expertise and success in a particular area and then given responsibility for decisions on technologies they have no applicable knowledge or experience in. There is a dearth of system-level control and management in a very large and complex project with many groups that develop solutions on their own without any coordination or formally defined requirements. There is a lack of software engineering skill and knowledge - al lot of hacks."

When it is matured, jobs are outsourced and engineers in the US get laid off, no matter how they contributed in the old product/technology. You should move to a new position every a few years within the company if possible."
