In order to determine staffing needs, they work with departmental managers. Human resource administrators oversee payroll, benefits and training.
Skillset: Decision making skills are required to look at the pros and cons of a problem and determine the best way to resolve the situation. Interpersonal skills are necessary as human resource administrators work with applicants, new hires, department managers and sometimes, unhappy employees. Human resource administrators need managerial skills to oversee their department employees.
Education: Human resource administrators should have a bachelor's degree in human resources or business management. Some employers will consider applicants who have management experience in other areas.
Career Path: If one wants to advance to larger corporations, a master's degree in human resources, business administration or labor relations is necessary. Human resource administrators may consider certification through the Society for Human Resource Management to make themselves more appealing to employers as opposed to those without certification.
