Chief Engineer

"I worked for Howard County General for 8 years and found it a good place to work for the most part. The management was fairly good when I started, but had declined towards the end. The main reason for the decline was the fact that Johns Hopkins started managing the hospital. They cut a lot of things to the bare bones, and tried to save money which caused the staff to have to do way more with way less. I would still return there to work, but I am now aware of the stress involved."

"After the arrivlal of a nurse from Ohio and a nurse aide from WV married to a Ohio man. I noticed being frequently asked about my religion, they made up lies and even accused me of doing things I was not responsible for. they would frequently knock on the bathroom door after few minutes from entering. I was yelled by Charge nurse. They even refused to issue me an ID badge after I went through security. They hired a nurse who was constantly asking me if I was ok. the first day the pyxis machine defaulted to methadone!! when I attempted to get some medicine for my patient. I reported the matter and was told that it would never happened again. even friends I have known over 20years that in Columbia were questioning my faith!!"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"None! One of the dept head was part of this and they treated my with suspicion and mistrust. some of the Nurse practitioners would deliberately hold chart after orders have been written to delay my implementation just to find reason to complain. some patients from Atlanta were also part of this game."
