  "We get to fire cannons, shoot muskets, wear itchy clothing and explain to children why living in these times was so hard. While I can go home to my soft bed in my warm home, many of the soldiers I am pretending to be were not so fortunate. However, for the time period, St Augustine under the Spanish rule was very modern and had a very good quality of life. Especially if you compare it to the lives of those who landed at Plymouth Rock several years after the founding of St Augustine."
