1.6The interview process itself should have been a red flag but I was in need of work, so I took the job. I came in and was asked a few questions and then was offered the job. The interviewer referred to himself as a "monkey on speed" and said that HR was closely watching him. He also cursed a lot. The job was a contract, so every hour I worked, Heartland Business Systems received part of my hourly wage. The offer was supposedly for 1 dollar less than what Heartland Business Systems was receiving from American Family Insurance, meaning I was paid $17.50 an hour and they received $18.50 an hour for my work. The contract was supposed to be indefinite and he promised that it would turn into a full-time position with the company to which I was contracted. I then received an email from HR offering me the position at the rate of $16 dollars an hour or so. I said I had been offered $17.50, and I was then offered $17.50 an hour. Before taking the job, I was told that I would need to rent an apartment closer to the company at which I was placed during the contract, I quickly scrambled to find an apartment, signed a lease, and began working. It quickly became apparent that I had made a mistake taking the job. First of all, where I was placed at American Family Insurance, and there was no one to introduce me to the role. I was placed in an offsite facility by myself, where I would begin to work on projects and attend meetings that were almost instantaneously cancelled. I would contact the other Heartland Business Systems contractor, who had become an assistant to the guy who was supposed to be training me in my role but was now relocated to a different department and always replied that he "didn't have the time" to meet with me.
