What do you like about working at Health Care Service Corp.?

"Great view of downtown Chicago and the lakefront from their building on Randolph St."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Understand that this is a bureaucracy which makes the government look efficient. All the problems with a management-heavy, technically unskilled supervisory structure are in play. There are far too many user types with little or no systems experience for a shop this size and the burden will fall heavily on you, especially as a contractor. By the way, contractors are treated rather shabbily so do not go in with any ego or personal pride as you will be continually frustrated."

What don't you like about working at Health Care Service Corp.?

"The technology is antiquated and the bureaucracy is monumental. The management consists largely of women new to IT and management and there are constant territorial struggles making getting things done difficult. Far too many chiefs and not nearly enough indians in this tribe."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Get some managers who have technical experience and competence, reduce the sheer number of managers and supervisors, slash out the tons of dead wood on the organization chart and get down to functional organization structures."

"Better communication and organization. Discourage silos, coach and development leadership roles."

"I Worked in this company for about 1 1/2 yrs And I like working with my team and my supervisor and manager are very helpful in getting all my system requirements done and were always ready to try the new ideas I had in improving the quality of the product serveries we are providing.I would reccomend anyone who wants to work in this company from my experience I have from here"

"Beware of HCSC. Old time IT organization. Worst of Govt. + worst of Corporate America. Have a pension which is great but no guarantee of getting it in 20 yrs. Bonus is the golden handcuffs that keeps all the ITG people here. They had to raise salary ranges cause no one wanted to make so little, but neglected to raise the current employees ranges. Whoops Once the great bonus is a great memory, then the smart people will leave. All that will be left is the unemployables + a slew of consultants."

"I have worked for HCSC for about a year an half. Overall it's a decent company to work for but not for the creative side or marketing. There is very little creativity allowed. Things are done old school way, and the CEO is not very in tune with technology."

"Beware of this Company. ACA and the changing marketplace is forcing IT people to be worked to death here. Very old fashioned. Just got Win 7 and BYOD. Very behind the times and nepotism and cronyism are everywhere. Lots of old people who are just putting in the minimum. You will not grow here. Lots of changes get put in Friday at 7pm forcing a lot of unpaid overtime..."

"Excellent people, solid support system, wonderful managers and staff. Diverse work force, great representation among minorities and women. Decent salary, mediocre benefits. Company is not fast paced and progressive. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a stable comfort zone."
