Hanes is a global leader in the manufacture of undergarments and hosiery. Founded in 1901 by J. Wesley Hanes, the fledgling company initially made men's hosiery. By the 1920s, the company had expanded into knitted undershirts, briefs and sleepwear. In the mid 1970s, Hanes rolled out its women's line of hosiery, bras, camisoles and slips. Today, its brands can be found in eight out of ten American households.

Hanes has its headquarters in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In addition to its undergarment brands such as WonderBra, Barely There and Playtex, the company has expanded its portfolio to include activewear, casual clothing, including a line of undergarments for full-figured women. In 2005 alone, it sold more than 400 million T-shirts. In 2010, the company reported sales of more than $4 billion.
