"It all depends on your manager"

What do you like about working at Hampton Roads Transit?

"The benefits are good, most of the people are good hearted and mean well."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Don't do it. You could really do better somewhere else. And since I've seen the entire senior staff turn over (including 3 pres/ceo's) , as well as most of the finance department, customer service reps, mechanics, etc - well, if yu feel you absolutely have to tkae a job there, keep in mind this is a great temporary job, and that with 6months to a year experience here, you can move on and make at least the market rate somewhere else."

What don't you like about working at Hampton Roads Transit?

"There is an accepted internal culture of subtle racism and bullying. They will go to any lengths to make their own PR be true. If you are not working for a good manager, you are facing career death there. There is NO upward mobility, it doesn't matter how many time they reorganize and change people's job titles to make it look that way. There is currently no raises, which actually means raises are only for the senior management/execs and their favorites. The presidentCEO makes more per month than most people do in a year. I know people who were harrassed and bullied at their jobs, and as a warning, Human Resources is not there to help the little man - unless you have a witness or two. The culture is still one of shirking responsibility and finger pointing, something which is blamed on the merger which was what, 15 years ago It is always not someone's job, and its always someone elses fault. And thats just on the admin side - i've heard equally distasteful things about the bus operations side."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Maybe its time to cultivate a culture of responsibility and give all employees the same opportunity to earn more as the senior staff gets. There nothing like knowing you didn't even get a cost of living adjustment, but that your boss got 20K more this year, just because."
