Georgia-Pacific is a well-established company that produces a variety of products, including building products, paper, packaging and tissue. The company was founded in 1927 by Robert Cheatham and was originally called the Georgia Hardwood Lumber Company, as hardwood lumber was their only product at the time. They have grown through the years and greatly expanded the company, as well as the variety and amount of products offered.
In 2005, GP was acquired by Koch Industries and was removed from the New York Stock Exchange. Currently, there are over forty thousand employees at more than three hundred locations. Georgia Pacific is based out of Atlanta, Georgia, and is currently being led by CEO and President, James Hannan. While building materials and home building have experienced a decline over the past several years, Georgia Pacific appears to have continued to remain strong.
As they continue to be the leader in their industry, they are continuously seeking out the best candidates to join the Georgia Pacific team. Several smaller companies, that rivaled GP, did not make it through the long period of low sales. But because of the experience and diversity present in the Georgia Pacific staff, they were able to successfully pull through.
Diversity and individual, as well as team success, is greatly promoted in the Georgia Pacific culture. Each recruit is specially selected so that they will not only easily integrate into the team but also provide a new and different perspective on the business. Working at Georgia-Pacific allows a person to take their skills and knowledge and apply it to the manufacture and production of their particular product.
The number and variety of opportunities in Georgia Pacific careers is limitless. Even though the products may imply that a person needs to have experience processing wood and like products, GP is actually looking for a wide range of knowledge and experience. A rewarding and interesting career is not the only thing to be gained as a GP employee.
The Georgia Pacific benefits are equal to or better than many other companies. In addition to the opportunity to grow with the leader in the industry, there is the pride in knowing that GP cares not only about its employees, but its communities and environment as well. Many personal benefits are also offered. Salaried employees can expect to be provided with health insurance, life insurance, retirement plans, paid time off and many other benefits.
Director of Sales is the highest paying job at Georgia-Pacific at $162,000 annually.
