"I have been an engineer for over 30 years and have worked a good bit as a contractor. I didn't know the Dilbert jokes about how contractors were true until I worked here. Treated like 2nd class citizens and treated with suspicion. The office space upstairs in AP1 was the nastiest place I ever worked. The dust on the cabinets was so deep it had texture, like a moon scape.Enjoyed my work and my coworkers. First supervisor was great, 2nd was a 'cover my ass' snitch, would betray my confidence."

"Be ready to sign lots of confidentiality agreements and allow GE to do searches on you. Never interrupt!"

"They do not pay contractors what they are worth and there is not adequate feedback on performance."

"Give new employees or new contractors more structured guidance on what is expected of and out of them both work wise and socially."

"Repetitive job functions on a daily basis, prefer a variety."

"Have rotation of job functions on quarterly basis for workers."

"It gave a lot of experience to what it would be like once I completed my degree and was ready to enter the workforce. Even though GE was a huge company, the people that I worked with treated you like family and was always there to help anytime you needed it."

"Just be yourself. The last thing that you want to do is act like something you are not."

What don't you like about working at General Electric?

"All of the bureaucracy. There was one project in particular that I worked on with another co-op that we almost finish and someone would come by and say they didn't want it to look like that. We would change the look and another person would send us down another path. This became very frustating after the third time."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"When important decisions need to be made, leave it either up to a committee or one person. This prevents the situation I discussed before where a project was being pulled in different directions at the same time."

"Professional respect, flexibility, cares for health and wellbeing of employees, many volunteer opportunities and social activities."

"Company hires people, not necessarily positions. Do not be afraid to apply if you do not have all of the credentials."

"I would be hard pressed to find a dislike. There could be a little more orientation for new employees, which is already in the works."

"Spend more time getting new employees oriented into the company."
