"This was a unique opportunity. I was one of a team of five (the only ME) whose recruitment from the staff of a dissolved US startup enterprise was bundled with the purchase of our valuable IP. Most GCL work has been as part of this team, including 13 multi-week trips to China. Responsibilities have been fluid, defined dynamically by need and abilities. The best things about GCL employment have been: • epic technical challenge to produce something new and difficult (and satisfaction at success) • creative outlet for heavy individual contribution to design and problem-solve • freedom to provide solutions, unconventional or transplanted from a different industry • physical, cultural and intellectual adventures reaching the far side of the world • collaboration and camaraderie with colleagues, forging friendships that survive job change and span oceans Ideally, this tenure would have been with an organization better managed, and in which I was more permanently vested and nationally aligned."
