Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) is a public educational system serving nearly 48,000 students living in Garden Grove and nearby communities such as Anaheim, Santa Ana, Cypress and Stanton. In size, the school system is 96th out of the nation's 17,800 public education districts. It is the 11th largest school district in California, with 70 elementary, secondary, special education, continuation and adult education schools.

Based in Garden Grove, California, the school district operates with an annual budget of more than $432 million. Four of its elementary schools were designated as California Distinguished Schools for 2012 and three were named as Title 1 Academic Achievement Schools for 2011/12. All of its high schools were national silver medal schools as ranked by U.S. News & World Report.

GGUSD employs 5,000-plus classified staff and faculty members. The district is a merit system school district so promotions and employment are based on qualifications and competence. New regular employees are probationary for the first six months, and management employees serve a 12-month probation period. The district offers all classified employees Social Security coverage and 12 paid sick days, 22 vacation days and 14 holidays each year. Classified staff members who work more than 30 hours a week also receive comprehensive health insurance, life insurance and access to the state's prestigious CalPERS retirement system.
