A foreman serves as an overseer of a group of workers in a supervisory role. Foremen act as coordinators that organize workers efforts so that the project at hand is accomplished in a safe and efficient manner.
Skillset: Foremen must be able to react quickly to changing environments while successfully keeping the work crew safe and motivated. Therefore, foremen should have the ability to be decisive and be attuned to meticulous details. They must also have a wide range of experience with the project at hand including any machinery that is used on the work site. Above all a foreman must be a leader by example.
Education: Some foremen have at least bachelor degrees in an engineering related field. However, many foremen simply have many years of experience in the field of their choice. All foremen should have solid foundations in mathematics, reading comprehension, written communication, and the ability to decipher blueprints.
Career Path: One interested in becoming a foreman can speed up that likely hood by acquiring at least a bachelor’s degree in an engineering field of study. A hard work ethic, keen sense of organization, and initiative can also help a crew member to achieve this position.
