"I applied interviewed got the job did all the paperwork and did my drug screen and was ready to start on Monday. Friday I get a call that I tested positive for nicotine and they rescinded their offer. I do not smoke but I am using a vape to ween and they would not hire me based off a reason that wouldn’t have impacted my work abilities. I had an excellent reference clean criminal record and 20 years experience and they chose not to hire me. I believe this to be discrimination because what a person does on their own time is not their business as long as it’s not illegal. A smoke free environment is ok and I respect that. How do they justify their actions? Are there so many well qualified experienced people that don’t smoke vape or drink alcohol that they can be that picky? I’m certain it’s an alcohol free environment too but they don’t say you can never drink alcohol. It’s discriminatory and unfair and sad that they passed up a great employee."
