What don't you like about working at Fidelity Investments?

"Too many structure/billing changes from above that made silos of the different areas - so you couldn't help others in the dept. when they were pressed/help was needed and you had time, as you lacked the billable codes. This resulted in decreased productivity even as we were being pressed to be more and more billable."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would keep a steadier course - not keep changing the goalposts."

"It is a wonderful high-quality group of professionals, headed by a true pioneer in the Human Factors field."

"By all means work with Tom and his team, they are a wonderful group with a deep understanding of UXD at every level."

What don't you like about working at Fidelity Investments?

"At the time I was there (Jan-June) there was a lot of change in upper management. THis resulted in a lot of changes and chaos in the UX department due to policy shifts that made it difficult to get the work done."

"Let the department do what it does best, and collaborate with their efforts, not stifle them."

"having knowledge is always great in our life, so better to again more knowledge in particular job that we are working for."

"My contract is over with that company, if they have opening definitely they will call me."

"Independent thought is largely discouraged and demeaned. Most of the people I work with are not particularly intelligent."

"Everything, but mostly I would focus on having a balanced evaluation of people and ideas."

"The rank and file generally work hard, care about the quality of their work and like to have fun."

"Your cultural fit with the firm is as important as anything on your resume. One should not underestimate the family ownership influence on all the things the company does."

"My time is often occupied with satisfying multiple levels of bureaucratic requests. There are too many powerpoint slides being created and too few decisions being made."

"The company has become increasingly less decisive with its decision making. Senior executives ask for more and more information, yet often, fail to actually make a decision on a deal or new venture. The broader organization feels the guiding strategy at the firm is not to rock the boat. Senior executive are rewarded for maintaining the status quo. The company plays to not lose vs to win."

"Let them know you are committed to hard work and putting in the time."

"The work that I'm doing isn't very exciting or challenging."

"Fidelity outsourced much of the application development work to more cost effctive areas offshore. The outsourcing deminished the onshore role over time."

"Offshore less IT development work and challenge the onshore resources to deliver software with more business value that is more cost effective."

"Management really promotes professional growth at Fidelity and allows one to advance."

"Fidelity does not care as much about experience as they do for potential. Their training program is amazing! So emphasis how much you want to learn."

"The pay is below the industry average however the benefits make up for it."

"Best to come from within industry unless going for entry-level jobs. Only go to get the name on your resume, but leave after 3+ years. Not a good place to work for highly motivated workers - especially those who value meritocracy."

"Top down management, minimal trust in management, difficult to grow in career ladder at acceptable pace (too many steps requiring at least 3 years each in order to advance significantly)."

"Focus more on meritocracy and fitting candidates based on skills, behavioral profile, and total experience (not just that with Fidelity); reduce inefficiencies resulting from politics and ego/insecurity."
