"Takes too much time to obtain resources and hence is often frustrating. Compensation too low."

"Improve the administrative operations and make it faster. Specially the badging service is too slow."

What do you like about working at Food and Drug Administration?

"I was a college intern when I worked here. I got my B.sc in Biological resource engineering and this was a very key job that helped me understand what I was actually learning in school. The best part of this job is the hands on experience you get doing medical research and assisting in state-of-arts surgical procedures on animal models evaluating the efficiency and performance of cardiovascular devices. Most of the animals used for research are swine (pigs) and its really good place for future veterinary students to work."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be sure to bring a SAMPLE of your research work. Get a personal reference from another Doctor or researcher in the field if you know any. The guy in charge of the lab - is a great family guy, very nice and not intimidating at all. He mostly look for people that will contribute new ideas and research method to his lab. A lot of the doctors and researchers there want everything to be ready when they come in. Any little thing missing or not in-order can trigger a bad day. Say a heart catheter is not going in at the right artery or the anesthesia machine is not right or the computer mouse is not working. Its a team work based kinda place, so be sure to mention all your teamwork efforts or achievements in past. Make sure to bring a sample of your work and ask more questions than you provide answers."

What don't you like about working at Food and Drug Administration?

"Cleaning up after surgical procedures was hard work. You scrub and clean the lab clean of any spot. The lab manager run a tight shift there and you really being told what to do every minute. so most of the tell you will be getting instructions and directions."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"The interns need to be given a specific task and allow them to do their job instead of trying to find minial work every minute. I think giving the interns a stake in the research and making them part of it helps them to want to contribute more. sometimes, the interns are overwhelmed by the knowledge level of the doctors and veterinarians."
