"I have worked for Fannie Mae for 8 years. It is a company with an important role in housing finance and employs some of the best in the business. Unfortunately, the government takeover has severely curtained what the agency can do and this has been a negative for morale."

"High consultant turn around. Don't expect to become a salary employee as they generally replace consultants within 1.5 years. However this is a great company to work for if you need something to do while looking for something else.Don't expect technical fields to be held by technical people. Several non-technical people get hired daily into technical fields here. The department I worked in provided access for the entire company but only 5 out of the 17 employees had technical experience."

"Clarify your priorities and the expactations of the position. Often job postings are just copied from similar job titles, but don't necessarily reflect the role you'll fill."

What don't you like about working at Fannie Mae?

"Since the housing bust, it's been feeling a bit desperate. Nobody wants to be the last person standing when the music stops playing. But the reluctance to move forward is tough to handle."

"Tell the truth. In the end, outsourcing is NOT the answer, no matter how much money you think you're saving in the short term."
