Customer Account Manager

"Overall solid experience and I made lifelong memories."

What do you like about working at Fannie Mae?

"The people -- family oriented environment in large financial services firm. Additionally, the casual nature (dress, internal meetings, virtual working, etc.) of the regional office is appealing."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be careful -- the future state of the firm is uncertain and if you're ambitious you will become dissatisfied with the office paradigm. It's also harder for new people to join the family in regional offices since virtually all employees have been there over 10 years."

What don't you like about working at Fannie Mae?

"Too bureaucratic/hierarchical given experience of employees. Most of this is driven by the regulator. Weak management is an issue with no defined track for promotions/upward movement. Reward system is flawed and seems partial (not what you know but who you know)"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Shake it up and make changes in the regional offices where most managers have been in the same role for 10+ years. Diversity is also lacking in the management ranks."

"High consultant turn around. Don't expect to become a salary employee as they generally replace consultants within 1.5 years. However this is a great company to work for if you need something to do while looking for something else.Don't expect technical fields to be held by technical people. Several non-technical people get hired daily into technical fields here. The department I worked in provided access for the entire company but only 5 out of the 17 employees had technical experience."

"I have worked for Fannie Mae for several years. The company compensation is great but the culture of cronyism is so widespread that offsets other benefits of the company. Lowest level of management efforts is focused to satisfy their bosses so they could move up and in between they forgot about their employees. Company does not value the experience and seniority of existing employees and HR does not do anything to change the culture."
