Enbridge, Inc. is an international pipeline transport company that was founded in 1949. The company initially operated under the name Interprovincial Pipe Line. Its first oil discovery was in Leduc, Alberta, and a pipeline was constructed that carried oil from this location to various refineries in eastern Canada. The company’s name officially changed to Enbridge in 1998.

The company notably operates the longest pipeline system for crude oil and other liquids in both the U.S. and Canada. Altogether, its vast system of pipes spans across 8,400 miles, and these pipes carry up to two million barrels of crude oil and other liquids on a daily basis. The company also has evolved over the years with interest in various energy projects as well as in liquids marketing. Most notably, in 2012, the company has two proposed projects that involve Athabasca oil sands and the transportation of bitumen to refineries.
