Easter Seals is charitable, non-profit organization that helps children and adults with disabilities. The National Society of Crippled Children was founded in 1919 by Ohio businessman Edgar Allen, after his son was injured in a streetcar accident. Allen saw first hand the woefully inadequate medical services available for children with disabilities. The organization launched its first Easter Seals program in 1934 to raise money for services. The Easter Seals name was officially adopted in 1952.
