District sales managers manage and direct other employees to reach sales goals in a given district. The district sales manager may also interview, train and hire personnel and oversee store managers within their district. Additional duties include planning and implementing both long and short-term sales goals.
Skill Set: District sales managers must have strong written and verbal communication skills. Good organizational skills, sales abilities, customer service skills and creativity are essential skills, as well. District sales managers should also be comfortable working with a team and have a positive attitude.
Education: A bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications or a related field is strongly encouraged. However, several years of retail management experience and a proven record in sales can help bridge the gap between education and experience.
Career Path: Previous management experience in a retail environment is preferred. A bachelor's degree can increase hiring prospects, as can a proven ability to make a sale and motivate others to do so. Several years in a retail environment can help build experience and looks good on a resume.
