Directors of HR run the personnel side for a business. They take care of the hiring decisions and interview processes. They work on recruiting good candidates and evaluating those candidates. On a given day, a director of HR might sit in on a meeting with an unhappy employee or conduct an interview with a potential employee.
Skillset: People in these positions must have the ability to stay highly organized. This is because they will have to maintain a file on all employees. They will also need significant psychological skills. Because part of the job is keeping employees happy and motivated, a director of HR will need to understand people and how they work.
Education: Many people within the HR world have studied either management or psychology at the college level. Some have gone through specific HR programs. Many will go on to grad school, where they will complete MBA programs for human resource management.
Career Path: A person who wants to work in HR might first work as an assistant in an HR department. They might work in an internship during college that gives them experience in the inner workings of a company's human resource management. From HR, a person can climb into upper level management.
