What do you like about working at Dillard's?

"I had complete autonomy with the merchandising in the department I managed, and I liked being a personal shopper for several professional athletes."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Make sure that you want to work at Dillard's. Growth in the company is slow to almost nothing. It takes 15 years to become a sales manager if you start as a sales associate with the company. Don't faint when they start with the pay cut and probation."

What don't you like about working at Dillard's?

"I didn't like quotas and decreased pay. Sales managers are allowed to take their associates' sales to make their quotas, and promotions are not easy. For an associate to be promoted, they ask all other associates to give a certain amount of their sales to that associate."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"The problem with Dillard's is that they cut pay when quotas are not being met. They can cut pay three times in 90 days. They never take into account that it's slow, etc. No matter what the circumstance, it's your fault. You can work your butt off for that company and there are no rewards. If the management likes you, they will keep you on for as long as possible. If I was running this company, I would change the structure of the quotas to align with the economy."

What do you like about working at Dillard's?

"The schedule at Dillard's is flexible; I can pretty much make my own. I love working with customers to try to fill needs. It is low stress for the most part."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Do not take the personality of some co-workers seriously, and try to have fun with the customers. Selling should be a fun experience."

What don't you like about working at Dillard's?

"I don't like dishonest coworkers, and there is very little leadership from manager. Some coworkers are treated differently than others."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Focus more on the presentation and the attitude of the employees rather than strictly going on performance. This presents situations where grunt work is ignored by some, while others complete those tasks which puts them behind."

What do you like about working at Dillard's?

"It's encouraged to continue to grow as a professional sales person and move up in the company through promotions. The environment is laid back but at the same time, everyone who works at Dillard's is well-trained and knows there are expectations to be professional and work hard."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"The most important things are showing that you are outgoing, hardworking, and most of all, if you can sell yourself to management and get hired, then you can do the job."

What don't you like about working at Dillard's?

"There is a lot of favoritism, and management typically does not follow up on schedule changes, rewards for events, etc. Management leads by negative reinforcement. Almost all employees complain about something involving Dillard's every day, and sales goals are most of the time impractical and seem far above attainable."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"There would be a higher level of follow-through on things like promised rewards for contests and events. Management would be fully cross-trained and employees would be better trained on all products in their department, rather than just their area of responsibility. There would be updated registers and equipment, and there would be more attention give to the overall attitude of the employees."

"Dillard's supports unethical salesmanship."

What do you like about working at Dillard's?

"I like some of the coworkers, my new manager, and the employee discount."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Interviewing is easy, but keeping the job is more difficult. It's nearly impossible to reach sales goals."

What don't you like about working at Dillard's?

"I don't like unethical sales and lack of management support, especially in today's market. Meeting sales goals is impossible unless you're willing to be unethical. There is a VERY high turnover."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Fire them all and hire better/ethical. Find managers who want ALL their employees to succeed."

What do you like about working at Dillard's?

"I enjoy the great products and services offered by Dillard's."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be yourself and have an outgoing/go-getter personality with the ability to provide good customer service."

What don't you like about working at Dillard's?

"I do not like SPH (sales per hour) you must meet or you will actually get a pay cut by a certain percentage. This has no bearing on other tasks not measured by sales such as stock, cleaning, customer care, etc."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Perhaps a more effective training program and consistent company message to employees would be beneficial."

Dillard's Employee

"The owners of Dillard's have owned the joint since the 30s and without a doubt have it down pat. So they think. It is 2017. Their number one problem is they are not keeping up with the times. What they do not realize is if they treated their employees with any ounce of dignity, respect and appreciation, their sales would be higher than what they are. (See my sales below) It is a known fact new employees do not stay and while they are there, do not put 100% into selling because after three weeks in, they see the B.S. They throw their hands up and leave. And this is why I love the younger generation. They refuse to put up with their horrible style of management. And the mess trickles down from the family to store management. I did not shop there when employed and continue NOT to shop there because I refuse to hand over $1 to the hateful Dillard family. (I did care about the employee discounts.) The only plus is the departments and you only have to look best when the Dillard clan or the other corporate cluckers come for a "visit". They think they're ROYALTY! Any other time, the departments can look a mess and you can pretty much wear what you want as long as it somewhat resembles dress code. There were many days when I didn't shave. LOVED THAT PART. Despite my stubby look, I did great in sales (I faked it big time & LOVED IT!). Always met my standard goal so I would not get a pay cut. I was not interested in reaching higher sales to reach the raise goal. So I only sold what little I had to because it was my way of getting even with the Big D Family, meaning I was not going to let them cut my salary. Overall, their loss because there were times I could have built it and sold more merchandise, but, purposely did not. Now whose loss was that? Not mine! I sold $1 mill in two years. Do not work for the Dillard's unless you're writing a book on the worst experiences of your life."

What do you like about working at Dillard's?

"At Dillard's, I enjoy helping customers and giving them a great shopping experience."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"They want to hear nothing else but that you are driven to make your sales and you are all about getting that customer to spend."

What don't you like about working at Dillard's?

"The sales per hour thing makes everyone so competitive they become backstabbers and end up stalking the customers to get that sale. It's a place where if you don't make your sales then you're fired or your wages are deducted. Dillard's has made a very hostile work environment. There is a lot of drama on who stole whose sales."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Reviews should not only reflect on your sales per hour, but on how you maintain your workspace. This store is a pigsty."

What do you like about working at Dillard's?

"I like the customers that come in. I like the fact that I am able to meet many different people. I am exposed to lots of different situations, cultures, and personalities at Dillard's."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"I think the company has potential but they would have to do a big turn around. If you can take constant nagging about sales and credit cards you can do it. It's not hard but can tend to be stressful."

What don't you like about working at Dillard's?

"I don't like the fact that we are rarely rewarded, but penalized for things (sales) that are out of our control."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I suggest that the managers take out a little more time with employees and stop assuming that they are not performing the job correctly."

Dillard's Employee

"Dillard's has a terrible culture and toxic environment to work in. I worked at the Mall of Louisiana under store manager Brian Hudson and district manager Jill Nicolson. I was discriminated against due to the color of my skin and wasn't provided the same opportunities as people who have the "RIGHT" skin color. I graduated from the state school where I live and also had 5 years in managment experience prior to taking the job. Not only was I cut short on my pay, after I took the job they changed my contract to where I couldn't earn commission which was in my initial contract. They stole funds from me that were rightfully earned and I'm in the process of getting a lawyer."

"They have quotas that are impossible to reach, then give you a pay cut or fire you when you don't reach it. The management think they are really important. I don't recommend working there at all."
