Daiichi Sankyo is a Japanese pharmaceutical company that was established in September, 2005 through the merger of Sankyo Co. and Daiichi Pharmaceutical Co. The merger combined two century-old pharmaceutical companies to create a global pharmaceutical company and the second largest pharmaceutical company in Japan. The global Daiichi Sankyo group employs over 30,000 people and achieved JPY 967 billion in revenue in 2010.

The U.S. subsidiary, Daiichi Sankyo, Inc. (DSI), was established in 2006. The organization, which includes U.S. commercial operations, global clinical development (Daiichi Sankyo Pharma Development), and regulatory activities, is headquartered in Edison, New Jersey. Daiichi Sankyo employs over 3,000 people in the U.S. and recorded 2010 revenues of USD 1.522 billion (in North America including Ranbaxy and Luitpold). Marketed products include Azor, Benica, Benicar HCT, Effient, Evoxac, and Zelboraf.
