"Interesting, but too high-pressure for my taste. Glad to not be there anymore."

What do you like about working at Crowdtap?

"Crowdtap was a fun place to work in some respects. I learned a lot about Rails development working there -- the team was quite talented -- and the perks were great -- unlimited paid vacation, fully paid health insurance, and the ability to work offsite as much as necessary."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"This company might be great for a developer just out of school who wants a fast-paced environment in which to learn a lot about Rails development, and who doesn't mind working a fair amount of overtime. I don't think I'd recommend it for others."

What don't you like about working at Crowdtap?

"High-pressure culture. Everything is needed yesterday. Had I stayed much longer, I would have burnt out. Also, coding practice is micromanaged: consistency is enforced to a fault, and even the smallest stylistic deviations are not often tolerated. I understand the need for some consistency, but Crowdtap applies a good idea far beyond the point where it's reasonable. Also, salary is lower than similar jobs, particularly when you consider the frequent mandatory overtime."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Don't micromanage coding style. Don't put your developers in a pressure cooker: instead, hire a few more developers or relax deadlines so that everyone has a more manageable workload. Strike the mandatory overtime: that represents a failure by management to properly schedule."
