"One assistant manager was a bully to me, other coworkers, and even some customers! She quit later on without a 2 week notice. She did not care about anything else but her own ego."

"WM- Great for seasonal, an awful place for Part Time employees looking for job security."

What do you like about working at Cost Plus?

"I have been working at Cost Plus World Market in Antioch CA, for a long while and from the time I started, to about three months ago- It was a great job. My employer worked with my hours, it was a laid back friendly environment, very team oriented, and it focused a lot on customer service. As a seasonal employee who was asked to stay on to part time, I was very happy with the the team and got along great with everyone. From stock to sales floor, it was like a family. However Now the only thing that I can say that is good about the store is from the customer perspective- you still get greeted when you enter, are handed a basket, and enjoy a speedy check out. From an associate's stand point- It has since been awful."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you are looking for a good seasonal job then WM is a wonderful place to work.If you are looking for a place to stay on for a long period of time, do not even bother. You will be constantly screwed over."

What don't you like about working at Cost Plus?

"We recently fell under new management and the entire store has fallen into disarray. There is little to no dialogue between supervisors and the GM, the GM monopolizes the schedual, no longer works with employee's to maintain hours, and talks down to all of the associates including the supervisors and stock managers. There has been a pay freeze and no one has been issued a raise in three years. In three months, the new GM has forced out six seasonal and part time employees, is soon losing a supervisor, and has hired on a new team that does not get along well with one another. I recieve numerous complaints from customers when they check out, saying that my manager needs an attitude adjustment and that they will not be shopping with us again. The stock team does not do well with company time and sales associates who should be assisting customers, are spending their time down stocking what the stock team did not finish. There is constant tension between the GM and supervisors- there has been yelling matches on the sales floor and in the break room on numerous occasions, and the team is constantly being reassured by the supervisors that we just need to, Let it roll off your back. Complain to HR, and hope they do something about it. Needless to say, they haven't. As a sales associate I feel that I ought to be treated with respect and not be talked down to. I want to work in an environment that I feel completely at ease in, where I can grow and expect ample oppritunities to rise to a higher position. I do not want to feel threatened by seasonal associates that have suddenly skipped to part time employees with benefits in a month- when the old staff has not recieved the same oppritunity. I also would like to work at a place where my hours as a regular employee are not given out to seasonal employees the moment that they are hired on. Needless to say, if you are looking for a seasonal position- WM is great for you. If you are planning on staying long term, turn around and submit your application elsewhere."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"After seeing a good form of management where the GM and supervisors respect and get along well with one another, it is exhasperating to see upper management tense with one another due to a new GM. It is hard to see the capabilities of a great team, turn into nothing but turmoil under new management. To be entirely honest, I think the current GM should simply be fired, as she is probably the most incompetant leader that I have ever worked with in my entire life.Since she is obviously never going to be fired, and continually transfered from store to store (that's the way WM deals with their management issues), I can only suggest that the management staff listens to one another, respects one another, and gives and takes from one another. An open dialogue is the best way to go at this point. To continuously shoot down ideas from employees without consideration, is probably the worst mistake that can be made."
