Creativity is also strongly encouraged in all departments. People that are ambitious and eager to learn new technical skills excel in this environment. Egos need not able, lots of talented folks, but everyone is humble and likes to share information."

What do you like about working at State Farm Insurance?
"The company does provide a lot of opportunity to develop and grow outside of your day-to-day responsibilities. Additionally, it's a large organization and there is a lot of opportunity for promotion. The culture is laid back and the casual dress code is a great perk."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"One of the biggest hurdles is adapting to the culture and the way things work here. It's a very large company, entrenched in policy and protocol. That works for some people, but for those who prefer a more nimble, quicker-paced and open/creative culture, it may not be the best fit for you."
What don't you like about working at State Farm Insurance?
"The biggest issues for me are the resistance to change/old-school culture and management style, as well as some of the benefits. First, this company and the management style, while they say they want diversity and want to develop people to succeed, it still needs to fit within a very 'old mold'. So if you are the 'type' of employee whom 'they' like, you will get ahead. People with dissenting opinions are often overlooked or not given credibility or serious consideration. As for the benefits package, while robust, it is still very outdated - segmented time off versus a paid-time-off bank short changes employees. Many of us will never use 10 sick days a year. Additionally, while the pension is nice, a more aggressive 401k match would be nice."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"This company is very slow to adapt to change and embrace new ideas/technology. In order to remain competitive and attract/retain the best talent, they really need to shift the culture to one that values more diversity of thought and is more open to accepting change and different ideas."
What do you like about working at State Farm Insurance?
"The opportunities for development and growth within my role, and the culture are very 'nice'. People are interested in your development."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"This company is very rooted in its culture, and is often close-minded to people outside of their traditional 'mold', However, for those who fit here, or have the right amount of X factor, there is a lot of opportunity for growth. You will need to play by their rules, and relocate in order to advance, but the potential is great for those who can do this."
What don't you like about working at State Farm Insurance?
"Employees are not empowered to make any decisions for themselves. We are too rooted in process, protocol and history, and often are fearful of making changes or trying something new. it's extremely frustrating for creative and fast-moving people."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"The company needs to move faster, be more nimble, and have less hierarchy/bureaucracy. It is way too top-heavy."
