The College of Lake County is a community college located in the far northern suburbs of Chicago. Based in Grayslake, Illinois, the institution enrolls about 18,000 students in its credit programs. More than 80 percent of those students are registered in school transfer or career preparation programs, which are the school’s major focus.
The College of Lake County opened with 2300 students in 1969 at the site of its current Grayslake campus. The school has since expanded from that original 181-acre location to include the Lakeshore branch in Waukegan and the Southlake branch in Vernon Hills. The school also offers classes at the Great Lakes Naval Training Base and at more than 40 extension sites. Adult education, professional development courses and non-credit personal enrichment classes also are available through the college.
The College of Lake County employs 246 full-time and 1500 part-time faculty at its various campuses. In addition to an attractive compensation package, the college provides faculty with incentives for professional development as a reward for continuing education, conference presentations and publishing. The college has introduced a Faculty Institute to help professors to transition into teaching. The institution also has a support staff of more than 600 full- and part-time employees.
