"Carnegie Mellon University is a research-driven organization where every individual gets an opportunity to push their limits and make a difference with broad impact. You will find highly motivated people who have a lot to teach you and help you undertake meaningful work."
"I have worked at CMU for several years and while it has given me a great opportunity to learn about different equipment and styles of teaching, the compensation is not that great. The people that I work with and my students are what have kept me at this job. It is time for me to reach out and see what else is in store for me to do."
"Great time working with a team in order to collaborate on an exciting project."
"I've worked here for about 18 months. Excellent health insurance but tech used in research is pretty old."
"My learning experience at CMU has been highly fruitful and has provided me the right direction to heed towards product management. During my spring semester, I was involved in creating a web application themed on Emergency Social Networks. This involved identifying customer requirements, product definition, ideating use cases, product feature designing using wireframes, solutionizing the front-end and back-end of the application as well as implementing them. I am currently involved in 2 summer projects, working alongside Emirates, our sponsor, to solutionize their OnBoard and Retail store sales. Using data analytics on large data sets using NumPy, Seaborn and Python, we are able to draw numerous data insights on product sales. I’m also looking into cart optimization based on these trends as a product solution to the problem statement provided to us."
"I worked as a graduate research assistant under Prof Asim Smailagic in last summer where I worked on Diabetic Retinopathy detection. I conducted research on highly efficient methods of learning in the field of medical image analysis for pre-processing data to improve the retinal image quality assessment accuracy for Diabetic Retinopathy(DR) detection and enhanced the detection of disease causing lesions in retinal images by colour balancing them with U-net segmentation and achieved 82.6% accuracy in the classification of retinal images into pathological and normal images by training the Res-Net."
"Friendly academic environment. The work atmosphere will depend on the lab manager/professor, but generally a great research environment with sufficient funding."
"This job pays well and allows you to work with some of the best professors!"
"Being a teaching assistant is pretty standard - it is great for a student."
"I was working with 3 other CS interns and a lead research professor with a goal of making educational games for kids that taught them about basic mathematical skills. It was a fun experience overall."
"CMU is one of the leading institutions in producing software engineers."
"I worked as Teaching Assistant for one semester. The job was highly relevant and a very good experience."
"I worked for CMU as an adjunct teaching Java. I was working part time at the time for family reasons. They are a fair employer."
"I have worked on building a system to bridge cultural gap between American and international students. It was nice experience and gained a lot of insights. Supervisor which I had was great and he has assisted me to come up with ideas that can solve complex problems. Overall I found this place great and I am happy with my experience. I will recommend my friends for any future positions. Only drawback is very less salary."
"I am a graduate student at CMU. CMU has an extremely hard working culture. Virtually, grad students don't have a break even in official holidays."
