"Prepare to give up your outside life"

What do you like about working at Kennedy Krieger Institute?

"The people are friendly and genuinely care for the patients there. The benefits are generally outstanding, especially if you are looking at going back to school. You will definitely feel like you're making a difference in the lives of the people you work with."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Stay friendly and be confident. The people that tend to get hired for this position are able to handle stress well, and tend to be in school."

What don't you like about working at Kennedy Krieger Institute?

"If you work in this particular department (neurobehavioral unit, inpatient), be prepared to not have a life outside of work. Not only is the work taxing and dangerous (I've known people that have gotten their fingers/noses/ankles broken), but the overall appreciation and respect is non-existent for doing the entry level work. Be prepared to work on all and every holiday (no exceptions), as well as an average of one on-call per week where the company has the option of making you work an extra shift."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Have higher pay, and less mandatory responsibilities. Most people leave this position due to the high level of danger/stress that doesn't outweigh the paltry salary."

Clinical Assistant at The Neuroscience Group
in Neenah, WI

What do you like about working at The Neuroscience Group?

"When everything is going as it should, it works very well. The team is capable of running as a well-oiled machine. It falls apart when personality conflicts come into play and/or when the workload becomes more than the scheduled staff is capable of dealing with at an effective, efficient level of patient care."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"They definitely make it sound better than it is! The pay is below average for all positions (excluding the physicians). The atmosphere is good, but it depends greatly on the personalities in any given department. The type of patients seen at NSG are quite high maintenance and many are in a high level of pain or subpar mental status, which can be stressful and challenging. The work can be rewarding, but you have to be the right fit for the work in order for this to be the case. Not everyone can work with neurology patients effectively."

What don't you like about working at The Neuroscience Group?

"When the workload gets overwhelming we are expected to just suck it up and deal with it. Also, Human Resources has too much to do and is always behind with insurance changes and her benefit data responsibilities. In short, the #1 problem at The Neuroscience Group is not enough staff for the work load, especially in management."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Appropriate compensation for employees, both monetarily and beneficially - based on performance, loyalty, and patient satisfaction."
