What do you like about working at Carpenter Contractors of America?
"I like having time to do things that I like to do, usually soldering stuff together and building computers."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"If it tells you anything, the lowest pay scale on the questionnaire ($30,000) is still thousands higher than my salary."
What don't you like about working at Carpenter Contractors of America?
"We spend all of our time in the IT department babysitting the guys in the shop, because they constantly break things and never get in trouble for it, but we constantly get in trouble for not being able to fix things as fast as they break them. The company culture is for everyone to shift the blame and throw people under the bus to make themselves look good. No one believes me about the shop, they think that I'm lazy because I'm unable to keep up with the guys in the shop breaking things, and they don't believe me when I tell them that they intentionally break equipment because they can't meet their manufacturing quota, they think I'm just lazy and have a bad attitude. Also, they won't give me a golf cart even though I daily carry 25lb computers 150 feet across the shop, but the dispatcher gets one but rarely, if ever, uses it."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"I would focus on boosting employee morale. We've gotten 40% pay cuts over the last few years and now that we're making millions of dollars again, employees have nothing to show for it. We're not kept in the loop about the company's bankruptcy a few years ago, and even when we work overtime (unpaid, of course) it's like we're never even recognized for it. Some departments are almost required to work overtime with not so much as a Thank you. Very frustrating."
