"Quickly going downhill as a preferred physician employer. Multiple levels of unresponsive bureaucracy and out of touch management has become the norm."

"I have worked with Carolinas Healthcare System for 6 months on a research project. The project was for my Master's degree. I worked offsite, at my university's lab. All the equipment and tools were provided by the company's research institute. We frequently got together to discuss the progress of the project. Since I worked as a volunteer, I had no salary compensation. Overall, it was a good experience working with them on the project."

"This is a very traditional organization with very traditional views that make it difficult to truly change and innovate. The bureaucratic hurdles that you must navigate to get anything done are detrimental to actually accomplishing anything in a timely manner."

"It's not how hard you work but who you suck up to that will get you somewhere at CHS."

What do you like about working at Carolinas Medical Center?

"The money and the name recognition the company holds in the area."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you are not directly involved in the hands on medical care of patients, you will be expected to do as told and not question. As long as you can do that, it will be a place to work for you. Oh, and if you plan to get your foot in the door and then move up, it is very difficult unless you have a while to establish loyalty with the person in charge of the area you want to move to."

What don't you like about working at Carolinas Medical Center?

"The HR department seems to have drastically gone down hill since the former CIO took control of the department."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Having HR report to the former CIO is a mistake. The department needs to go back to the control of the CEO in order to keep the ship from sinking."
