The Boston Educational Network Employee

"I have worked here since 2011. Like all small companies it has its highs and lows, and on the technical team I have experienced both positives and negatives. Only major negative on the technical team was one poor hire who never pulled his weight, was never at his desk, took 80 hours to do 40 hours worth of work, managed to overwrite a production database and tried to lie about it, prevented us from successfully being able to implement an agile environment - and somehow managed to keep his job?? This put extra pressure on the other members of the team. Luckily things got much better after he left the company. As for positives for being on the technical team, there has been lots of exposure to all aspects of product development, as well as exposure to all tiers of development. Most of the past members and current members of the team were willing to help each other out even when it involves staying late to do so. Wearing many hats allows for a lot of exposure, but it can also be stressful as well. I will agree that this company is still trying to work out its identity with respect to its product offerings, and the recent sale of the company hasn't helped that. However, it has been an excellent place to grow skills especially for young developers with real potential. Right now I would say the company is currently experiencing a low point, but that is what typically happens immediately after a sale. Whether or not it will rise from it is yet to be seen."

"I have been working at the Boston Educational Network since 2013 as a junior software developer.Working here has been an excellent opportunity to grow my skills in back-end, mid-tier, and front-end development. The company is poised for a lot of growth and the software team will be largely responsible to that. The Software manager is extremely knowledgeable and talented. They have been an excellent mentor for my personal/professional growth, and I have all the confidence that the vision they have for their software will continue to be successful."

"I've worked at The Boston Educational Network since 2013. This company has an identity crisis. They are a software company, but the owners are very resistant to change and don't like technology in general. There is great potential for growth but the two owners are looking to retire soon and aren't really sure what they want to do with the company yet. There are only 3 technical staff total and unfortunately 2 of them are emotionally fragile which has been a huge distraction in such a small space."
