"if you're applying for a contract position, you may not interview at all. However, for the direct position, read the book, Competency-Based Interviews, as that is the style that Boeing uses."

"Management was very incompetent, and often they were placed there purely for political reasons, not because they were the most competent."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Ensure that technical competency is a part of the hiring decisions, not politics. learn how to estimate workload and staff accordingly to avoid a continuous cycle of ramping up and down in workload."

"Create an architecture group to define and thoroughly document all current business models and processes plus defining any proposed changes and consequences. Rely on architecture to drive implementation instead of different groups/roles purchasing disparate subsystems."

"Watch jealous people and do the best you can. Learn as much as you can, and watch out for some cultures who are from India who bring their negative thoughts and think people are in a class system. Report anyone who works you without paying the proper lawful overtime. And finally enjoy your time there because there are some smart, great, wonderful and caring people at Boeing. I still interact with a lot of them."

"My former Sr. Manager, he worked me overtime without pay. When my father was dying and Sr. Manager knew I would go to the hospital each day to feed my father, the Sr. Manager changed my hours so that it would be hard for me to get there in time."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"To adhere to the laws and treat people lawfully and not keep hourly employees past time talking about nothing because they are lonely or didn't like going home to a not so nice wife. Pay for overtime (anything past 8 hrs should be paid accordingly). And when someone saves another person's life don't drag them into a meeting and reprimand them because, others thought it was a totally unselfish thing to do!"

"Expect mandatory overtime (not always paid). Contracts are always bid low, requiring lots of extra effort to complete."

"Unreasonable deadlines, poorly-managed projects."

"Need to relearn how to execute contracts, and how to get new contracts. Need to get better at retaining and retraining employees. Stop outsourcing so much of the work."

"One of the company's mottoes is, We do the hard things, because they make things harder than they should be, not because they are hard to do."
