The first BJ’s Wholesale Club was opened in 1984 on the border of Medford and Malden, Massachusetts, under the name Zayre. Zayre sold the name to form TJX Companies. Soon afterwards, TJX created a warehouse division, which was later named BJ’s. When BJ’s became an independent company, the headquarters was moved to Natick, Massachusetts.

Currently, BJ’s operates 190 stores across 15 states along the United States east coast and the state of Ohio. There are also distributions and warehouse storage spaces in Uxbridge, Massachusetts, Burlington, New Jersey, and Jacksonville, Florida. The company currently employs approximately 23,500 full time and part time employees. BJ’s Wholesale Club is ranked 232nd on the Fortune Magazine’s ranking of the 500 largest American public corporations.

BJ’s Wholesale Club offers brand name and generic groceries, medications, jewelry, baby products, toys, clothing, books, appliances, and home goods. The company operates both in retail stores and via website.
