Working at Autism Speaks in Los Angeles, CA: 2 Employee Reviews

Field Communications Manager

What do you like about working at Autism Speaks?

"I am able to grow my abilities by trying out new tasks. I get to work in several different markets. Whenever we have a lack of expertise in an area, they are very supportive of reaching out to consultants to fill the gap."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Make sure you're asking for everything you want up front. Also, if you're interviewing in the Field, your burnout rate is fairly high."

What don't you like about working at Autism Speaks?

"I'm considered a subject matter expert, but my recommendations are often ignored until we've tried every other option. I have a great track record once we implement my ideas, but this continues to be a pattern. Everyone is focused on how they feel something should work and refuse to look at the data to back that up."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Those at the bottom are carrying the brunt of the work while we continue to add to the ranks of VPs and C-level executives. We need more subject matter experts and a serious corporate culture change. There is a lot of talk about 'silos' in that no one talks to anyone else. There are pockets that are trying to change that, but it's very difficult."
