"I started working for Amtrak in 2011 as a Part Time Reservation Sales Agent and I worked my way up through the ranks by qualifying in different departments, learning the jobs and teaching others. Amtrak is going places. Great improvements are coming, but with that being said there some decision makers who do not make the best decisions in the interest of the passengers or employees. If that part would be improved upon, I would give Amtrak a 100% rating."

"I worked at Amtrak for about an year. Over there I was mainly handling CAD drawings of an HVAC duct used in a GE P-42 locomotive. From the CAD drawings I also did some FEA on ANSYS to compare different ducts and how the air will flow through them."

"As a new employee at Amtrak, trying to understand the lay of the land can seem daunting. The railroad is like learning another language but they set you up for success with an intense classroom training program followed by extensive on the job training to translate your knowledge into skills. Many long term employees will help you out of a jam while those newer to the industry will share your frustrations on becoming fluent in the "railroad." Questions are never shied away from as there are many different ways to take proper action, depending on your own analytical problem-solving. You will always be supported by management, they will take your advice and let you do your job the best way that you know how, as long as you show them how you used your experience to inform your decisions."

"This company which was formed in 1971 is still evolving. The company has ambitious plans for the future. But the scarcity of funds is slowing them down. It is still managed like the old railroad companies. People at the leadership are reluctant to embrace new management approaches."

"I've worked for Amtrak as an analytics and information management intern since this January. As the only railway operation company in the United States, the projects are very challenging here. That's good, these challenging projects sharp my skills and abilities."
