"There is a lot of gossips and provincial thinking. They are hostile to change and company politics is the only thing that matters, especially in the Technology Department."
"New owner with no capital meant no projects, cuts almost everywhere, hence no work."
What do you like about working at American Refining Group?
"I throughly enjoyed my work and the hourly people. I enjoyed teaching them how the systems worked and to operate them efficiently. I took a bunch of guys who where there because it was a good paying job for the area and who did not care about the condition of the plant as in their opion it is managments job to take care of the plant, to a group of guys who took pride in their ability and the appearance of their areas. Also, the operation and the availability of their process to be running."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Look elsewhere."
What don't you like about working at American Refining Group?
"There was always the push to reduce planned outages times after establishing schedules. Some planned work would be put off, cut short, not completely finished as planned as the potential to make a profit appeared to be at hand. In a short while the entire unit would be shutdown to fix a problem and cost twice as much. The potential for yearly pay raises was always dismissed as the price of crude was either up or down and no funds were available. The potential for energy savings and cost reductions were dismissed as not in our goal."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"None, as they would no listen anyway."
