American Journal Experts Employee

"I worked for AJE for 2 years, first as a junior editor and then as a senior editor. I cannot recommend it if you are trying to earn money. Often, you'll struggle to make minimum wage. However, if you require flexibility and would like to see what sort of research is going on in your field, then it can be helpful."

"Editing scientific publications before submission to research journals to improve English usage. This position is a convenient way to facilitate the career transition from Atlanta to New York."

"The pay is awful for the amount of work you're expect to do. ."

What do you like about working at American Journal Experts?

"I can work at home and I'm getting professional experience editing without a writing or editing background."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"You've been warned -- they aren't going to be honest with you in the interview process, so you'll have to judge the company once you start working there. How long it takes you to complete the test edit is a good barometer for how much time you'll spend on each edit. AJE has an amazingly high turnover rate of editors, and there's a reason for that. I wouldn't be working for them if I didn't need the professional editing experience."

What don't you like about working at American Journal Experts?

"The pay. The papers are usually in horrible condition, and you're expected to edit them perfectly. If not, you get a bad score. The pay is horrible. Most editors make less than minimum wage. The $25 an hour figure is a lie. You make $40 on a 4000-6000 word paper, so you would have to finish editing it in under two hours to make $25 an hour. Since most of the papers seem to be translated into English by google translate, two hours is impossible. It's more like six-seven+ hours."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Pay the editors a fair wage for the amount of work they do."
