With a headquarters located in Columbus, Ohio, AEP serves the states of Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. AEP’s current Chairman and CEO is Mr. Michael G. Morris, and the current president is Nick Akins.

In 1906, the American Gas and Electric Company was formed in Albany, New York. On January 2, 1907, American Gas and Electric Company acquired its first plants, providing electric service, gas, water, steam, transit, and ice service to communities in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Illinois, and Indiana. In 1958, American Gas and Electric Company changed its name to American Electric Power, and in the year 2000, AEP merged with Central and Southwest Corporation of Dallas, Texas in order to better serve a wider range. Currently, AEP owns approximately 38,000 megawatts of generating capacity and the nation’s largest electric transmission system. American Electric Power serves over five million people in 11 states across the United States.
