"Depends on your DOO. 4 1/2 great years then hired to DOO's in a row that they previously fired. Both latter DOO's were corrupt, allowed unsafe practices to happen to make numbers look good. Very sad ending to what was an enjoyable job."

What do you like about working at Amedisys?

"helping patients, the nurses and other clinicians. It allowed me to be debt free"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Getting the job was easy. All palliative NPs present as of Jan 2012 have resigned. They will hire you. They are desperate"

What don't you like about working at Amedisys?

"Non medical people try to dictate clinical decisions. The company is under investigations for medicaid fraud (again!) and has recently closed or consolodated 28 centers without employee warnings due to financial losses. Managment will lie and make up reasons to fire you if they do not like you despite your clinical skills and prior awards"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Stop telling lies to your employees and the public. Money is the bottom line. Palliative Care's goal, we were told was to ..funnel people into Hospice.... where the real money is.... Funny, I thought my job was to alleviate suffering in patients with life threatening illnesses. As our presenter pointed out you will not earn us money that way... the money is in Hopsice.. I watched in horror as he drew arrows representing my patients being funnelled into hospice, to demonstrate. I pictured cattle being funnelled to the slaughter. I had hopes that my patients would survive their chemo or illness. , but that was not their primary concern. When they did survive, I was told to ....check back every few months, maybe they are getting worse and we can get them into hospice.... I was horrified and disgusted. I could no longer work for this company and maintain my self respect as a clinician."

"Fellow staff members are pretty decent and communicate well with each other"

"Caveat Emptor. This place paints a pretty picture , but the work will chew you up, spit you out, and not bother to stop and see if you're ok!"

What don't you like about working at Amedisys?

"Micromanaged, poor office staff, management difficult to approach. Definite favoritism for some of the staff: rules don't always apply to them, no consequences for their mistakes...."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Reward the staff you have, develop and support us. Less punishing type threats."

"For the first two years it was a great experience"

"No, I have no advice. I would think very carefully about working for AMED"

"They cant decide what they want to be. Constant changes, no direction, no support."

"Focus, stick to a strategy. get rid of the good old boys club."

"Independence. I got to work various hours and days, but it was not the company I was hoping for."

"Be prepared to be very independent, ask for information and advice."

"Communication in management is poor. I am used to good communication."

"Better organization, communicating with staff better, short staffing, more experienced staffand better people skills..."

"The appreciation shown by the family's of the patients, as well as their doctor's and nurses."

"It is a very rewarding industry as far as appreciation by families and patients, but it is also very tough because you are dealing with terminally ill patients."

What don't you like about working at Amedisys?

"There was no one else to help with the marketing effort and those in marketing above me were not always available if I needed assistance or help. They did not visit the market much and thought they knew more about the market than any of the RNs or other staff in the office."

"Take into consideration every aspect of the employee's job and really take time to listen to them and do everything you can to help them succeed."
