Overview Albany Medical Center Hospital is a 651-bed medical facility in Albany, New York. It is one of the largest private employers in New York’s Capital Region and the only academic health sciences center in the Northeastern part of the state.

In 1839, Dr. Alden March, a graduate of Brown University, founded Albany Medical College, and he started Albany Hospital 10 years later. The two institutions merged in 1982 to form the Albany Medical Center. Albany Medical is a major referral center for the 3.5 million residents in its service area. Its wide range of specialty programs includes an Epilepsy Center that is designated by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers as a level 4 center providing complex neurodiagnostics monitoring, and extensive medical, neuropsychological, and psychosocial treatment.
